Goreans in Relay For Life

Welcome to the Goreans in Relay For Life Team Page.

Our team is made of individuals that are fans of Gor: A set of novels by John Norman that combine philosophy, erotica, and science fiction. Some people are seen as life stylers that try to live a philosophy of Service, Duty, Honor and Home. Others are involved in the Massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) that blend the genres of role-playing video games massive multiplayer online role play. Finally we have the gamers that enjoy the video game fighting. We have all come together in SecondLife to take something we enjoy and use it to help in the fight against cancer.
Gor is described as a habitable planet in the Solar System that shares the same orbit as Earth, but it is linearly opposed to Earth and consequently always hidden by the Sun, making direct observation of it from Earth impossible. The flora, fauna, and customs of Gor are intricately detailed. Gor is populated with the equivalents of Roman, Greek, Native American, Viking, and other cultures. In the novels, these various population groups are transplants from Earth brought there by space-craft through the behind the scenes rulers of Gor, the Priest-Kings, an extraterrestrial species of insects. The Gorean humans are permitted advanced architectural, agricultural and medical skills (including life extension), but are forced to remain primitive in the fields of transportation, communication and weaponry (at approximately the level of Classical Mediterranean civilization) due to restrictions on technology imposed by the Priest Kings.
Because of this advanced medical angle the venue is attractive to those with cancer. The Gorean community has lost many to it over the years. We have many survivors that come to Gor to find the beauty, strength and vitality real life has stolen from them.
The Gorean Team has been relaying for nine years now and has consistently been one of the top three teams in fund raising. In our world we have held festivals, tournaments, dances, contests of all sorts to raise money to fight cancer on earth.
This year our goal is to reach outside our SecondLife world and challenge those outside of SL that love Gor like we do and love serving our community by paying back with the support, celebration and the fight that the American Cancer Society offers us.
We are made up of people from all corners of the world because we know that Cancer has no boundaries and success will be universal.
We are united in our cause and in our desire to make a difference. We have loved, lost, laughed and cried together. We have told our stories and opened our hearts and listened to one another. We have danced, sung, fought, walked and built cities, communities, created fashions and worked in the spirit of cooperation.
This year our theme is “Passport to Hope" As travelerswe come together to invite you to join us.
