Who can be a team leader? You can! Team leaders are the heart and soul of Relay For Life. Nothing can describe the hope that is inspired by walking with thousands of people who share your passion for defeating cancer. Because nearly everyone has been touched by this disease in some way, it is easy to find others to walk with you at your event. All you have to do is ask.
Once you sign up as a team captain on this Web site, you will be able to send out personalized emails asking others to join your team, track your team’s fundraising progress, and raise your own donations.
To help you get started, we’ve included a few fundraising tips below.

Invite a Survivor to Join your Team
Survivors are an inspiration to all of us, having been touched by cancer first hand. Honor a survivor by asking them join your team and walk with you at Relay for Life.
Challenge Each Other
If there are 2 or more Relay for Life teams within the same company or organization, hold weekly challenges to drive your fundraising efforts through healthy competition.
Suns & Moons For A Cure
Contact your local American Cancer Society for sun and moon donation cards to give your supporters for a donation of $1 or more. Local stores can sell these starbursts for a donation and they can be on display for the entire community to see the Relay is coming to your town!
Offer Prizes
Ask local businesses to donate great prizes to your team that you can auction or raffle off. Items such as gift certificates to restaurants, hotels, gyms, and spas are always a big hit. Please contact your staff partner at the beginning stages of planning for a raffle for appropriate guidelines, then fill out the Raffle Record Keeping Worksheet and turn it in to your staff partner before you begin selling tickets.
Go Casual
Dress down for a cause. Arrange for your office or school to allow people to dress casual in support of Relay for Life by giving a dollar or two or even five.
Reduce Stress
Find a masseuse through a health club, training school, or chiropractor's office. Have them come to your business and provide a 5 or 10 minute neck and shoulder massages for a gift of $10. Have employees sign up beforehand, and the masseuse will come right into their office.
Honor Loved Ones
Looking for a creative way to honor loved ones? Create quilt squares in honor or memory of someone you know who has been touched by cancer. You could accept varying donations for different sizes of squares (e.g., a 4-inch square for $5, an 8-inch square for $15, and a 12-inch square for $25). Then, display the quilt in the lobby at your office, school, health club, or place of worship.
Eating For A Cure
Anytime people can get a great meal and support a good cause, everyone wins! If you work at a large company, ask if your department can host a potluck for donations from other employees. At school, ask the principal if your team can sell bananas or granola bars at recess! If you don’t work somewhere with a lot of traffic, have a bake sale at church! Cookies, brownies, and chewy rice squares are always top sellers!
