What is Hope University?

Hope University is a certification program that allows Relay For Life leadership volunteers to fight back through knowledge. Whether you’ve been on the Relay For Life committee for a few years, are just starting out, or even thinking about joining the committee in the near future, Hope University has something for you!

How do I enroll?
Sign up for Hope University by completing an Enrollment Form, and then following the course curriculum to complete core and elective activities to receive your credits.  All core and elective activities will provide the knowledge and skills for proficiency in American Cancer Society knowledge, Relay For Life knowledge, and Leadership. Since the first Relay For Life event was held in 1985, Hope University students must complete 85 credits to graduate.

Training Methods
The core and elective activities include toll-free conference calls, face-to-face training sessions, virtual trainings, and experiential opportunities. For example, by volunteering for Road to Recovery for a day, you’ll earn credits toward the American Cancer Society-knowledge skill set. Volunteer at a nearby Relay For Life event, and you’ll earn credits toward the Relay For Life-knowledge skill set.

It’s fun. It’s easy. And best of all, Hope University fits into your schedule because you choose your own training activities.

What happens after graduation?
All Hope University graduates will have the chance to celebrate their accomplishments at a ceremony each fall.

Graduates of Hope University will then have the opportunity to take on a volunteer leadership role. The leadership opportunities include the chair or co-chair of a Relay For Life event, regional Relay Advisory Team member, Celebration on the Hill 2010 Ambassador, regional Board of Advisors, as well as division workgroups, and national opportunities.
