I am Suzanne, and I am now a widow. With a heavy heart, I'm creating this page as a Memorial to honor my loving husband, Kevin and his Strength and Faith.
Kevin went Home to be with Our Lord, in Heaven, without any pain what so ever (he didn't even require an asprin!) in our home, in Rock Falls, Illinois, three days after finding out that his kidney cancer hadn't spread past his original lymphnode (which had been effected and we knew about from Day 1) to another organ, after all, but complications from his Stage 4 kidney cancer...---- after 5 years, 7 months and 29 days from his original diagnosis, when they removed his right kidney and any effected lymphnodes they could, his remaining kidney had catastrophically failed and there was no saving him.
He was a man of deep, abiding Faith, and during our last conversations we had, the night/morning he died, he told me, "Suzanne, don't be mad at God. He didn't "do this" to me. It just happened." He KNEW and believed that the Lord was showing him Mercy without the painful suffering and given him Grace.
Kevin Lathrop NEVER cried a tear over cancer. Not one drop. He just said "It happened" and that was it. His Faith was his comfort because he knew he was going home to be with The Lord. He was sad to be leaving loved ones, here on earth, but would smile and say that I shouldn't be sad, and I wasn't "loosing" him, but he was just going to go be with God and he would smile and say that he was "going to have a better Zip Code" is all.
Here on earth, his family he would say he would miss the most was me (his wife of 15 years), our daughter, Sarah, his sons, Kevin, Jr and Lee (both of Colorado), and other family, and friends. When he died, he didn't now it, but Kevin, Jr, who was living apart from him for many years; he also left three beautiful grandchildren he would never meet. Kevin Jr got in touch with me when someone in our small town who knew how to get a hold of him, and said that his father had died, and Kevin Jr got in touch with me, I learned that Kevin Jr was married and has three children. Kevin Sr is smiling from Heaven now, because he was a "Grandpa". And he's smiling in Heaven to know that his son, is married and has a family of his own, and has grown into a fine man to be proud of. He's a wonderful son to me as well. I've grown to love and admire him all the more.
Kevin was an amazing man, and an inspiration to all. Consider donating to the American Cancer Society today.
Sincerely, Mrs Kevin Lathrop (Suzanne) NW Illinois 11/10/14
Kevin Fund Raised for ACS during his journey too
About Kevin, Sr. and the ACS: He actively would fund raise for American Cancer Society via PSA (public service announement) which aired at the radio station he worked at as a weekend DJ at WSDR am1240 radio station, located in Sterlng, Illinois, back in 2010 too. Click the link below to my now defunct blog, that archives a little movie I did using the actual PSA, and photos of Kevin in the studio and you can hear, in Kevin's own voice, how important it is to find a cure.
Never ONCE did he said HE was living with terminal cancer-- but I am also on the PSA, and I was fundraising at my craft store at Etsy (as SuziMoose) at the time, and by golly-- I said who*I* was and the fact the beloved DJ that folks were listening to every weekend, was in the fight for his life as well. His listeners didn't know until that PSA. Kevin believed with his whole heart, that CANCER had to be stopped. Not just his (kidney cancer) but *ALL* cancer. And not just for him... but everyone. Give it a listen. Leave a comment on the blog if you visit from this link so I can see you've listened if you'd like to . CLICK HERE TO LISTEN: http://maytagnmom.blogspot.com/
I will be fund raising for ACS as his widow as well
Especially during the month of November (our wedding anniversary month)
And then again in march (Kidney Cancer Awareness Month)
I will continue to craft and fund raise for a cure to any and ALL cancer, via ACS, as Kevin would want me to. As he put it so plainly in the PSA he aired at the radio station.... "the clock is ticking for those who need a cure for cancer"
If you would like, you can add your name and a short message to our Guest Book. Thank you.
