Saint Joseph's University Hawks
Coach Martelli has joined forces with Coaches Fran Dunphy, Bruiser Flint, John Giannini, Glen Miller and Jay Wright to do what they can in the fight against cancer. Phil and the other coaches support the American Cancer Society. Last year, the program raised over $600,000 for the American Cancer Society's programs of research, patient services, education, and advocacy. Since 1996, Coaches vs. Cancer of Philadelphia has raised over $1.5 million.
Martelli the Magnificent! In 2004, Martelli and Saint Joseph’s completed a perfect Atlantic 10 season, as the Hawks defeated everyone they played en route to a 27-0 record. The squad was selected as a number-one seed in the 2004 Men’s College Basketball Tournament for the first time in the school’s history, making their fourth appearance in the tournament. Martelli was named the Coach of the Year by the United States Basketball Writers Association.
