Jay Wright
Villanova University Wildcats
In 2001, Jay Wright was chosen to be the caretaker of the tradition that is Villanova Men’s Basketball. Wright became only the eighth coach, and fifth since 1936, in the 82-year history of the program. He grew up in nearby Churchville, PA, and was an assistant coach at Villanova under Rollie Massimino from 1987-1992. In four short years, Jay Wright has authored a new chapter in the rich history of Villanova basketball. In 2004-05, the Wildcats returned to the national spotlight, advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1988 and finishing the season with a No. 13 ranking in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
11-year Coaching Record of 198-139 (76-54 in five years at Villanova)
