Erin Chambliss: I'm a married mom of two, and although I'm a personal trainer and am very active, this is my first half marathon. My husband and children have been extrememly supportive. I chose to run because my family, like so many others, has lost loved ones to cancer. Rachel started out as my client, and now I consider her a friend. Her story as a cancer survivor inspired my to run with her to raise money cancer research.
Cheyne Inman: "The finish of a race takes countless hours of hard work and preparation, and for this race I want my hard work toward raising money for the American Cancer society before I hit the finish"
Rachel Brown Meers: As a three and a half year Melanoma Cancer Survivor, I know the challenges that we as patients face through the days and years of treatment. Research needs awareness and funding. Without funding, treatments such as the clinical trial I participated in wouldn't exist. My prayer for our team is to bring two main goals to the table for this race: 1. To strengthen the hearts of our Cancer Warrior friends, family and unknowns. Hopefully, our team will demostrate the compassion that we have for them by the preparation and determination of running 13.1 miles. 2. To drive home the understanding that the American Cancer Society needs funding to continue to bring awareness to the diagnosis of cancer and the prevention and treatment of cancer. WE WANT TO RAISE $15,000.00 in 10.5 weeks! Lauren Jennings Neppel I started running at a young age because my family was a "running family". We were members of the Huntsville Track Club and spent many summer nights at the cross country park and more weekends than I can count at local races. I ran cross country and track in Middle School but then gave it up for other activities like cheerleading and socializing with friends. In 2007 I found my way back when a friend asked me to run Cotton Row with her. From there we took on the Birmingham Half Marathon. What started as a means of exercise turned into a renewed love for running. Since then I have finished 4 other half-marathons (Huntsville, Auburn, and Country Music twice) and 1 full marathon (Walt Disney World). I am so excited to be a part of the Brown and Meers team and for the opportunity to run with friends. I AM RUNNING to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. More specifically, I am running to raise money that supports research of cancer treatments like the one that saved my best friend's life! Ashley Sebring: I have been running for about 6 years. I started running create a healthier lifestyle and it has blossomed into a passion. One that I can pick back up after a break, one I miss when I don't do it and one that now allows me to help others. I look forward to turning my passion into a cause. I think my running has just evolved. Sarah Turner: I am running because the Lord is telling me to! This amazing opportunity has been handed to us and if we dont take it and RUN with it, we will have lost out on the chance to save someone's life. There is nothing better than knowing that with every step you are making a difference.
Any race could be a life-changing event - but our next race will be a lifesaving event. As part of the American Cancer Society DetermiNation Mini Series, We are achieving things we never imagined we could accomplish. Yes, training is tough, but for us the finish line is just the beginning. Our race victory will help save lives from every cancer in every community. And We are hoping you'll support us in our efforts.
