Now a three-year breast cancer survivor, I recognize the importance of our campaign efforts on behalf of others struggling with this disease. I am happy and proud to announce that this coming October marks The New School’s 4th year supporting the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer campaign.

This year alone, nearly 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. And, you may recall, earlier this year, a 10-year old California girl was diagnosed with breast cancer. To be sure, we have much work to do, making strides on behalf of those who need us!

The New School community recognizes the importance of our campaign efforts in support of programs and services for cancer patients, services which may not have been otherwise available.  The work that we do helps to improve the quality of life for many facing a cancer diagnosis. Our fundraising efforts mean that we are responsible for helping to improve recovery outcomes for cancer patients: this means that working together, we are all on some level responsible for helping to save lives! 

 

I know we are living through some tough economic times, but we cannot afford to go backwards - - lives are at stake! What we do today, as part of the American Cancer Society family, becomes our everlasting legacy of hope.  Let’s join to make a DIFFERENCE.  Make HISTORY and Make Strides Against Breast Cancer.

Young, old, rich, poor; breast cancer does not discriminate. Help efforts to eliminate breast cancer so that our children and grandchildren may live in a breast cancer-free world! Having supported my mom through her battle with breast cancer, and witnessing the physical and emotional distress it caused, I know the importance of early detection and prevention, and money to fund research of such.

The Making Strides walk is a way to support and give hope not only to survivors but to the family and friends of all who are affected by this disease.  Hope is a part of us all.
