We lost our father on June 7, 2011 to malignant melanoma.
Camilo Gomez' story is like that of many immigrants to this, his beloved adopted country. He brought his small family here over forty years ago. By the time of his death his small family was not so small anymore, his wife, sons, daughter-in-laws, grand children, extended family and a large strong network of friends which are also like family.
The title of this mosaic piece may sound like a cliché, but it is the best way to describe our father. It best fits his humble background, genuine caring nature and intelligence. The amount of sympathy and genuine emotion expressed to us by strangers; neighbors, sales clerks, maintenance people, delivery people, etc. is witness to our father's interest in the welfare of others in the ordinary course of life.
His loss to this terrible disease leaves a hole in our lives which will only be healed by time, making us stronger in the process. He would not want it any other way.
