What is Relay For Life?
Relay For Life is a community event where people come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. Friends and family, coworkers, companies, and other groups form teams and those teams raise money to help fund research and patient care through the American Cancer Society. The funds you raise truly make a difference in the fight against cancer - just ask one of the nearly 14 million cancer survivors who will celebrate another birthday this year!
Relay For Life teams “camp out” during the event at their site and take turns walking around the track. Team tent sites can be decorated and teams can sell food, items, and activities at their site for day-of fundraising. Events are between 12 and 24 hours long, and because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times.
The Mission of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life:
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported and that one day, cancer will be eliminated.
Through their fundraising involvement, Relay For Life participants ensure the lifesaving mission of the American Cancer Society is supported. Volunteers can find fundraising ideas, incentive program details, and encouragement through a number of channels including here on RelayForLife.org and on Relay Nation, an online community developed just for Relay For Life participants. Have you raised a minimum of $100 so you can be part of the HOPE Club and receive your 2015 commemorative t-shirt?
The Luminaria Ceremony is a ceremony of remembrance and hope. It symbolizes a time to grieve for those we have lost, to reflect on our own cancer experience or that of those closest to us, and to find hope that tomorrow holds the promise of a cancer-free world.

Luminaria bags are available from your Community Manager and can be picked up at Team Captain meetings or contact: Svea Miller at firstname.lastname@example.org
