What is Relay For Life

Relay For Life is a noncompetitive walking event where team members take turns walking a track while we raise money to fight back against cancer.  We ask that friends, families, and businesses form teams.  At the event itself, teams are given a “campsite” where they can set up a home-base for the night and where they host an onsite fundraiser.  While your team is enjoying the event and engaging in fundraising activities, we ask that one member from the team is walking the track at all times.

What to expect

We hold this community event to celebrate our cancer survivors, to remember those we’ve lost, and to fight back against the disease. 

To celebrate our cancer survivors we host a Survivor Dinner onsite at 6 PM before the event’s Opening Ceremonies.  All survivors and their caregivers are invited to attend this complementary dinner, where survivors will also receive their special purple event shirts.  At the Opening Ceremony, our survivors are recognized by taking the first lap around the track for survivors and caregivers only. 

To remember those that have been touched by cancer we hold a Luminaria Ceremony just after sundown.  Before and at the event, as well as online, individuals can purchase a luminaria bag in honor or in memory of someone special.  The Luminaria Ceremony includes the dimming of all event lights while our participants walk the luminaria-lined track.

To fight back against cancer we raise funds at the event for cancer research and patient services.  Teams are invited to hold onsite fundraisers like selling homemade items or hosting a fun activity like karaoke.  Any individual who raises $100 either before or at the event will receive our event t-shirt.

What to bring

Canopy for your team area, table, chairs, onsite fundraiser, water, sunscreen, hats, cash and your friends and family!

How to Fundraise

Hold a fundraiser like a garage sale or proceeds night at a local restaurant.

Ask your friends and family!  The Relay website has emails already formatted to send out – all you need to do is import your contacts to your unique webpage after registration.

Download the iPhone or Android Relay application and send fundraising emails instantly to your contacts.

Sell luminaria – our bags that we use to honor or remember someone who has battled cancer.
