There is good news in the fight against cancer: according to recent statistics, the actual number of people losing their lives to this disease has gone down.
As a result of advanced research and early detection, more and more people are living longer and beating cancer. And the American Cancer Society is working to save even more lives. Over the last several decades, the Society has contributed to almost every major discovery in cancer research, including many that resulted in better ways to prevent, detect, and treat cancer. In 2009, two more Society-funded researchers were awarded the Nobel Prize, bringing the total number of Nobel Prize winners who have received Society funds to 40.
And these lifesaving efforts have made a difference right here in our own community. There is a reason to celebrate- we are making progress. But there is still work to be done.
By raising funds and awareness, you can help the American Cancer Society continue its lifesaving work. Take part in the Relay for Life of Connecticut College.
Congratulations on a successful kickoff!
Relay is underway! And that means that people right here at Connecticut College are busy making plans for this year's American Cancer Society Relay for LIfe. We've already had a great kickoff celebration, and right now, people are forming teams, raising funds, and letting people know about this incredible event.
As you may know, Cancer affects millions of people across the globe and many people right here in our hometown. By being part of Relay for LIfe, everyone has an opportunity to celebrate survivors, remember the people we've lost to cancer, and fight back against this disease. We will be joining millions of others to support the American Cancer Society and the lifesaving mission of eliminating cancer as a major health issue. Plus, we'll be helping fund the important services that the American Cancer Society provides right here in our own community.
We want you to join your friends and neighbors and be part of Relay for Life of Connecticut College. Sign up to participate, for a team, and raise money and awareness for this important fight. Don't worry if you couldn't attend the kickoff - it's not too late t be part of Relay! If you want to leanr more or discover what you can do to help email the event chairs Jessica Leclair (jhlec@conncoll.edu), Lauren Manning (lmannin1@conncoll.edu), or Tommy Howd. We need your help to spread hope for a future where cancer no longer threatens the lives of people we love.
