MS & VG Relay for Life chosen for American Cancer Society fundraising video location.
Our RFL event on Feb. 27, 2010 is going to be more memorable this year. The ACS has chosen the Miami Springs and Virginia Gardens Relay as their location to film a new fundraising video showing how a community comes together to make this event happen. Since we will have a lot of eyes on our Relay please note that tent decorating contest starting at 10am. Please remember out theme is "Luau for Life" when thinking of decorations. May the best team win.
Costume Contest and Tent Decorating Contest
As you already known, tent decorating is mandatory this year since we will be part of the fundraising video but we are also having a Tent Decorating Contest. The tent needs to be decorated by 10 am to be considered as the judges will be from the American Cancer Society Corporate Office. Tents will be judged on creativity, uniqueness of design, and total team involvement.
At 5:30 pm there is going to be a Costume Contest. One person from each team needs to dress up in their Hawaiian attire and represent your group. Winners of the Tent Decorating Contest and the Costume Contest will receive an award (possibly Spirit bucks?) and bragging rights for the whole year. Please remember that this is a family event so use your best judgment when choosing what to wear (i.e., we don't expect to see any coconut bras!).

FIGHT BACK through research! THIS YEAR, selected Relay events in our community are offering the unique opportunity to participate first-hand in a landmark new study, the Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). The American Cancer Society will be enrolling people into CPS-3, a long-term study that will help researchers better identify the lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer.
Please spread the word and visit the CPS-3 website to find an enrollment location near you and for more information about how to participate in research today for a cancer free tomorrow.
