You Have Made a Difference!
More than 6,500 volunteers collected more than $375,000 at the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event on Saturday, October 17, helping the Society to create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays. With today’s donations, Dayton has now given more than $2 million to Making Strides since the first walk here in 2000.
“The volunteers who joined us in Making Strides will save the lives of many mothers, daughters and sisters,” said Peter Osborne, public relations director for the American Cancer Society. “Thanks to their support, we’ll provide more mammograms, continue to offer strong support programs for breast cancer patients, and build upon the $352 million that we’ve already invested into cutting-edge research on the disease. The Society has spent more on breast cancer research than any other non-governmental organization.”
Thank You for Making Strides!
Making Strides was an inspirational, uplifting 5-k walk through downtown Dayton. Participants can still send in outstanding pledges and even ask new friends to give through this web site. Walkers are also encouraged to ask their employers about matching gifts.
New this year, participants can donate to the fight against breast cancer using just their cell phones. By texting the word “Hope” to 20222, callers are able to make a $5 donation to Making Strides. The $5 charge will appear on their next cell phone bills. Up to five such donations can be made each month.
The American Cancer Society saves lives and creates more birthdays by helping you stay well, helping you get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back. For more information anytime, call toll free 800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.
