My Reason to Relay
"30 Years Old, You're too young to have cancer"
WRONG!
At the age of 30, not only was I being diagnosed with cancer, but I was being diagnosed with BREAST CANCER! Isn't that supposed to only affect older women? And so began my education.
On March 15, 1999, I was diagnosed. On March 23, 1999 I underwent a modified radical mastectomy leaving a large jagged scar where my right breast had been for so many years. Because the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes, I received my first chemo treatment on April 16, 1999. On April 29, 1999 I had my head shaved!!! It was a pretty wild 6 weeks! My treatments involved another 5 months of chemo followed by 30 radiation treatments. And all through my treatments, the American Cancer Society was there.....they helped to fund the research that developed the cutting edge treatment I received, they provided me with the information to made informed decisions about my treatments, they connected me with a woman who had a similar situation through their Reach To Recovery program, and on and on.
Every day, the American Cancer Society is helping us stay well by preventing cancer or finding it at its earliest, most treatable stages. They assist families in finding the best resources to help their friend or loved one deal with a diagnosis and their journey to get well. The American Cancer Society is also rallying communities through events like Relay For Life, to fight back and find cures for this disease.
Please join my team or make a donation to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Together, we can help make sure that cancer never steals another year of anyone?s life!
If you prefer to make a donation by check, please send a check made payable to the American Cancer Society to me at:
