Looking for a way to help save lives from cancer?

Become a Relay For Life volunteer!

Together with millions of supporters, the American Cancer Society saves lives by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back. We depend on the dedication and talent of our more than 3 million Relay For Life volunteers who work with us to create a world with more birthdays.

For more information about volunteer opportunities for this event, please contact Heather Gilbert at heather.gilbert@cancer.org or 478-743-6391.

Here are some examples of our Relay For Life Volunteer Opportunites:

  • Team Recruitment - Re-enlist veteran team, recruit new teams, and do presentations at team meetings.
  • Registration/Accounting - Help oversee the registration of participants and the tabulating of funds raised per individual/team.  This committee requires several volunteers and is a great opportunity for bank tellers, accountants, cashiers, etc.
  • Luminaria - Coordinate the luminaria ceremony, collect luminaria bag donations prior to and during the event, apply the inscriptions on the luminaria bags, and place them around the track and in the grandstands at the Relay.
  • Online Fundraising - Customize the Relay website and send emails to participants to encourage online registration and fundraising.  Keep participants informed about Relay meetings, activities, and fundraisers throughout the year.
  • Setup & Logistics - Oversee the Relay facility and assist with the setup and cleanup of the site before, during, and after the event. Obtain needed items for the Relay such as tables, chairs, special event tents, restroom facilities, waste disposal, lighting, transportation of goods, etc.
  • Survivorship - Recruit cancer survivors and caregivers to participate in the first lap of the Relay.  Coordinate the survivor ceremony and reception/activities that may include a handprint wall, survivor eternal life chain, etc.  Register the survivor participants and honor them with a special memento (buttons, ribbons, sashes, shirts, etc.).
  • Food & Beverage - Secure donations of refreshments and beverages for the participants during the event.
  • Entertainment - Arrange entertainment for the event consisting of music, games, activities, etc.
  • Public Relations/Marketing - Coordinate year-round marketing and media coverage for the event, including television, radio, print, etc.
  • Advocacy & Mission Delivery - Recruit Relay volunteer to join in grassroots efforts to change laws and public policies that affect state and federal cancer programs.
  • Corporate Sponsorship - Create sponsorship proposals and secure funding or underwriting donations from local companies and organizations.
  • Year-round Volunteer Opportunities - Call your American Cancer Society today to become more involved with Relay For Life year-round and to give back to your community.

The Society has many other volunteer opportunities available throughout the year, including volunteering with patient support programs, transporting cancer patients to treatment, working in local offices, advocating for changes in public policy, and participating in fundraising events. Call 1-800-ACS-2345 to find out how you can make a difference in the fight against cancer in your community.
