Welcome to Kristina's Fighting Cancer Page!
My Reason to Relay
I’m scared—actually, terrified—that some day, I’ll hear three horrible little words: “You have cancer.”
I’m not a hypochondriac. My mom, maternal grandmother, and several other relatives have survived cancer. But cancer has also taken away two grandparents, other relatives, and far too many friends. Unfortunately, the list doesn’t stop there, as I’ve heard about more friends and colleagues who have lost loved ones to this rotten disease.
But I’m not willing to give up. This is my 11th year in supporting the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Reston. I am passionate about this commitment, and I continue it because I vehemently believe that the American Cancer Society is making a difference in the fight against cancer—through education, advocacy, and research efforts, as well as in supporting those diagnosed with cancer. Because of that, I'm participating this year as a fundraiser, team member, team captain, and overall co-chair of the event.
I hate to ask for financial support during a year when so many are struggling, but cancer will not stop for the economy. I’m not asking for much—just a little bit… $5 or $10 from 100 different friends can go a very long way. I’m tired of losing loved ones to cancer and seeing friends lose loved ones to cancer. I'm tired of seeing family and friends go through this horrible disease. I need your help in making it stop.
I Relay because I believe The American Cancer Society will help us cross the finish line, and defeat cancer.
Please make a donation to me or join my team. You are helping deliver the hope that future generations will not have to endure cancer threatening the lives of their friends and family. You have the power to fight back against a disease that affects millions.

I'm having a big fundraiser at my house today, from 2-6 p.m. , and then it will be available online through Nov. 13! Lots of different vendors and fun stuff going on. Go to http://www.topsitesforyou.com/RelayParty.html for more information.
Last year the event raised $350 for my fundraising efforts--hope it does at least as well this year!

We have selected the date for RRFL 2010! Will be announcing it this weekend, and updating the http://restonrelay.org Web site to reflect the new date.

Started off with a bang.. just when I was getting ready to kick off my individual fundraising work, RRFL offered some cool opportunities for leadership and growth. Here's what I've done so far...
* Accepted role as co-chair of RRFL 2010, and will work with my good friend, Lisa Nicholls. REALLY EXCITED to be back again as a co-chair, and I think Lisa and I are going to have an awesome committee and pull together a "kick bottom" RRFL!
* Updated my personal RRFL Web page
* Tried to post my Nov. 8 fundraiser on restonrelay.org. Not sure if it worked.... will get that going later.
* Updated my Nov. 8 fundraiser Web site (http://www.topsitesforyou.com/RelayParty.html) and printed out flyers.
* Prepared to speak at Oct. 17 Relay Leadership Conference
* Updated the http://restonrelay.org Web site, adding (hopefully) useful information for participants
* Sent out an email to all past participants of RRFL, hoping to get everyone jazzed up and ready to party!
* Worked on more planning for my Nov. 8 fundraiser party.
* Wrote my first blog entry on http://restonrelay.org (hint: if you're reading this, you found it!)
