Our Reason to Relay
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is more than just an event to us. It is our personal opportunity to help save lives from cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society. It's amazing to think that millions of people will be diagnosed with cancer this year. You or somebody close to you or I may be one of them.
I was schedule for a colonoscopy in Feb 2006 but decided to cancel due to my workload in the office. I surely had all intentions of calling to reschedule soon. However, five months later on July 26th 2006, I was diagnoised with stage two Rectal Cancer. This is a 100% preventable type of cancer. Immediate medical treatment was needed and after several weeks of many pills and radiation sessions, the golf ball sized tumor responded well to treatment by shrinking to 1/3 the original size and I had surgery the day before Thanksgiving. After healing somewhat, I then started several trips for IV chemotherapy treatment. Which equates to be a "controled" slow killing of your body...with all the side effects. I had some really good medical teams that pulled me through and a multitude of prayers for my physical wholeness again. I am still under observative treatment (blood work and scans) for 5 years. Thanksgiving 2009, I will be 3 years CANCER FREE !!!!!
Again, on June 25th 2009, cancer struck our family. My beautiful wife, The Reverend Marian Dyer, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She immediately had surgery on July 1st to remove the small pea sized tumor. Results has shown that surgery did not remove it all and it had spread into her lymphnodes. Marian is currently undergoing chemotherapy which will be followed by additional surgery and radiation sessions.
On April 30 2010 we both will participate in the Relay for Life celebration and walk the Survivors Lap together while our daughter Adrian (16) walks the Care Givers Lap.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, support our efforts by making a donation of any amount or by joining our Relay For Life team. You may even want to consider increasing your impact by making a monthly donation. Together, we have the power to help create a world where cancer can no longer claim another year of anyone’s life.
