Reason to Relay

As part of my culminating project in high school, I decided to research Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia and participate in Relay for Life, where I experienced my first Luminaria Ceremony.  Seeing the stadium light up, illuminating the hundreds of faces around me, I was inspired to make a difference.  I realized at that very moment that helping the fight against cancer was a cause that I would love to dedicate my life to supporting.  I will never forget the words "HOPE" and "CURE" spelled out by candlelight, radiating powerfully throughout the night as a reminder of why we were participating in Relay.  After ten hours and multiple laps around the track, I truly realized what I was running for:  I was running for hope.  I was running for a cure.  And most of all, I was running for life.
