Our Reason to Relay

The Michigan Electronic Dance Music Association (MEDMA) is a student group here at the University of Michigan that is dedicated to spreading awareness of Electronic Dance Music in Ann Arbor and the greater Detroit Area.  At this year's Relay for Life at U of M, we will camp out overnight and take turns walking around Palmer Field to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society save more lives from cancer.  This is one of the ways MEDMA can contribute to the Michigan campus and beyond by helping to fight cancer, but we need all the help we can get!

Last year, our team won the award for best campsite at the U of M Relay.  We had student DJs performing with our own equipment for 24 hours straight!  In order to raise more funds at Relay, we provided lessons in how to DJ for $1.  By keeping the music going the whole time, we hope we helped motivate all the other students and teams participating to stay involved and active throughout the event.  The administrators of the U of M Relay said they had never seen the Relay so lively throughout the night!

This year we want to greatly exceed our fundraising from last year, and we want to be able to do more to contribute to the atmosphere at Relay for Life than we have before.  We will continue our DJ lessons, and we will also be selling glowsticks for $1 each.  We have a much more dedicated team and group coordinating our efforts this year.  We have been incorporating fundraising for Relay into our other events already and are looking for more ways to raise funds!  If you would like to host or co-host an event with us, please contact medma-core@umich.edu.  Like we said, we can use all the help we can get!

You can also join or donate to our team, and in doing so be a part of a life-changing event that gives everyone in the community a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.
