I am a first-rime Relayer. I joined "The Family" in support of my friends, Lori and Pete Stammers. I will attempting my first full marathon October 18, 2009 in the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon. 100% of your donations will be given to Relay for Life. I would also like to honor or memorialize your loved one by adding their name to the back on my race shirt. Please let me know if you are interested and I will fashion my attire to pay tribute to those who have survived and for those who lost their courageous battle. Relay gives me the unique opportunity to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and support the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving mission by fighting back against a disease that has already taken too much.
Please support my efforts and vision quest to fight back against cancer by making a donation or joining my Relay For Life® team.

Sorry that it has taken me this long to check in after yesterday's race. I have been crazed the last 36 hours. The race was phenomenal. I could not have asked for a better experience. The weather was great, a little cold at the start, but it got better as the hours went by. I finished in 5 hours and 21 minutes. My feet were just killing me! I wanted to quit so many times, but Kathy wouldn't let me those last 6 miles. Having 10 of my friends there at the end made it very emotional, fulfilling and worthwhile. I cried a lot at the end of the race, but they were tears of joy. I loved having my special "Relay for Life" race shirt on (thanks to Sue Murphy) and the names on it carried me through the race. I am so glad that I joined "The Family" and was able to give something back through my marathon. I want to thank all those who donated their money, supported me from the beginning and those who gave their time to help me train. The last six months have not been easy, but it was more tolerable with my friends. Love to all...

It's the final countdown. We are less than one week away from the start. I did my last 8 mile run yesterday and averaged a 10:19 mile. I checked the weather report and I know this is Michigan and it could change on a dime. They are predicting an overnight low of 41 degrees and 51 and sunny for the day. I am so pleased with that. If it changes to freezing/pelting rain I will just scream haha. I also found out that I will have roughly 15 people downtown supporting me on race day. I could almost cry that so many of my friends are giving up their Sunday to cheer me on in my pursuit. It's time to make my t-shirt for race day. I have 27 names to proudly display and draw inspiration from. Let's get this thing going...

I think I am ready to get this marathon over with! I blew off my 10 mile run on Friday night because of the weather and my 8 mile run on Saturday for the same reason. I did ride my stationary bike for an hour each day. Yesterday's 10 miler on the Polly Ann trail was grueling. I just wasn't into it. Thankfully, Lori was there to push me to finish. I was told that I would get burned out on running about now, and I think I believe it. I am ready to run on the 18th and cross this off my bucket list. I am glad to hear that so many people are coming downtown to support me. It means a lot to me that they are giving up their Sunday to see me (or try to see me haha) on the course and at the finish line. More to follow as I begin to panic more with each passing day :-)

Oh man! When I looked at the Free Press Marathon website with the countdown clock, I started to FREAK! I was in Vegas last week for a conference and managed 2 days on the hotel treadmill...boring. Yesterday was our big 20 mile run. Val and I did it at Stoney Creek without our usual biker to hand us water, Gatorade and Jolly Ranchers. It was tough, but we finished in under 3 hours and 45 minutes. Thanks for the continued donations that are rolling in. It means the world to have the support that I am getting from all over. I know I can do this and want to make everyone proud of my achievement. Until next week...peace and love to all!

Well, another week has past. I got my other marathon shoes finally...they are canary yellow and when I look at them I see sunshine and happiness. My long run this week was 10 miles and it went great. I am eating like a horse, but it is healthy stuff and extra carbs to fill up my tank. I will begin working on my race day shirt when I return from my conference. I will be running while I am in Vegas, but a treadmill just doesn't excite me at all. I am very happy with how my donations total continues to grow. Thanks to everyone who donated so far and gave me a name for my shirt. More to follow soon...peace out!

Well, it is now less than 5 weeks until the marathon. I did not run on Friday or Saturday...too many social obligations and not enough hours in the day. I had my first 16 mile run on Sunday. My cousint, Val, who is also training for her first marathon, ran with me on the Polly Ann trail from Leonard to Oxford. Lori (my personal coxswain) was on her bike with water, Gatorade, Shockblock and Jolly Ranchers at the ready. We finished in 2:50.43...about at 10:40 per mile pace. I felt good afterwards and my legs don't hurt today. We came across 1 deer, 4 chipmunks and I almost stepped on a snake. Those of you who know me well, can imagine what curse words I threw out. Anyway, this is an easier week training with only two 10 milers on the schedule. Piece of cake...who said cake, cuz I am starving haha!

Hello everybody! Well, I have about 5 weeks to go before the race. I am still waiting for my other marathon shoes and trying not to stress out about it. I downloaded about 20 news songs onto my Nano to help me with training and the big day. I am very thankful for the support that I am getting from all over the world. Germany is the farthest that a donation has come in from...how awesome is that? I have a 16 miler to do on Sunday and am kind of looking forward to it. Need to make sure I am prepared physically and mentally. Not to complain, but recently I have been hungry all of the time. That doesn't jive with my Weight Watchers program too well, but I am making due. Anyway, thanks again for backing me on my vision quest. It means the world to me!
