My Reason to Relay

My Reason to Relay is to keep others from having to endure the hardships my mother faced during her battle with cancer. Its also for my grandfather and grandmother who both lost their battle with cancer years ago. Its for friends such as Judy and LeAnn who also left this earth too soon because of cancer. Its for my father who continues to be a survivor. Its for my Aunt Kathy who continues to walk a path of survivorship. Its also for Poepy, Grandma Faye, Sandra, Patty, Janet, Pattie P., Gladys, Henry, Bill, Ben III, Ben R., Marilyn and the many others who have crossed my path and continue to live as survivors. It's for the amazing team of physicians and staff at MD Anderson who gave their minds and hearts to help my mother hang on for longer than we ever imagined. It's for my niece, Kirbie, who will, hopefully, not ever have to worry about the word cancer. It's for those who will get a phone call from a doctor tomorrow telling them they have cancer. It's for those who have family members they have lost to cancer and feel the same anger, frustration and helplessness that I have felt.

The American Cancer Society helped my mother live almost 13 years after her initial diagnosis of breast cancer through their funding and support of cancer research. I will be forever grateful to this organization because of it's efforts, and when you or a loved one are touched by cancer, you will be moved, as well. Let's all move forward together in this fight for health, healing and hope.
