United We Stand - Many Cancers, ONE CURE!

United We Stand - Many Cancers, ONE CURE!

Young, old, survivor, caregiver, friend, family, we are all in this fight together.

I’ve been going back and forth debating if I should have a relay for life team this year or not.  I kind of feel like if I’m going to give my time and talents and be on the leadership committee why shouldn’t I go all out and have a team? So, on January 28, the day that my grandma passed away from lung cancer, 15 years ago, I decided to do it!!

I would love to have you on my team!

Let me start by saying I am NOT going to stay the full time or do that much walking. I’m more about raising funds and being there for the fun stuff.  The relay kicks off  Friday, June 7 and runs through 10am or so on Saturday, June 8 (that is information that I should know) at Kent Meridian High School.  I will be there for kick-off, obviously for the survivor’s lap and reception, and for the luminaria ceremony, then back for closing ceremonies on Saturday morning.  If you’ve never stayed for the luminaria, it will break your heart and at the same time fill you with love and hope, and make you want to do more.

This is a great event to bring your kids to, the girls have joined us many times and I’m hoping they will be able to come again this year.

You can designate  as much or as little time to this as you would like. If you agree, I would love for you share the fundraiser on FB or with friends/family (off of FB if you would prefer).  If you have done enough fundraising and tapped out your friends, that isn’t a deal breaker, I still want you there celebrating with us!

I haven’t been a team captain in 15 years, please join me and let’s take the leap together. I know this is a big commitment and everyone’s time is valuable.  Just be thankful that I’m somewhat obsessive and will probably arrange everything, you just get to come along for the ride. Feel free to invite your spouse, friends that might be interested, I know I'm missing people, but trying to get the word out to as many as were on my original team as well as all my new friends. If you can't be at the relay, but still want to be part of my team and raise money, I'm all for that!!

I love you and hope you will join in kicking cancers ass!!

HOW FUNDRAISING IMPACTS YOUR COMMUNITY

Cancer hits far too close to home, so the funds you raise will help do the same. Through services and resources like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline, cancer patients and their families will feel the love. Here’s how recent money raised has been put to incredible uses.

$410 million as of
august 2018

Funding potentially lifesaving cancer research grants.

1.34 million in 2017

Calls and chats from patients and caregivers seeking support.

Nearly
452 thousand in 2017

Any donation amount helps save lives from breast cancer.

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
