Why We Formed a Relay For Life Fundraising Team

Welcome to our team page! Relay for Life formed in Wise County in the spring of 2002. My dear friend, Katie Stevens, and I had recently become survivors of breast cancer and we passionately decided that together we could make a difference in the battle to eradicate this MONSTER. Foremost, we didn't want our daughters to experience what we had. We formed a team, Friends, that continues to fight back every year. Katie lost her battle but she left a legacy that inspires each of us to have faith in our Savior, hope in a cure, and to fight back! Friends currently has six survivors that were diagnosed after the formation of our team. We lost Ann Jolley, a dedicated warrior and team member, to a reoccurence after more than twenty years. Ann’s contagious spirit lives on in each of us. Cancer has touched all of us in some way, so we decided to fight back by raising funds and walking in our local American Cancer Society Relay For Life event.

As a team, we are taking action to help eliminate cancer as a major health problem. At our Relay event, we will take turns walking around the track to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society in their lifesaving mission.

Please join our team in the fight and make a donation. Saving lives from cancer starts one team, one participant, one dollar at a time.

HOW FUNDRAISING IMPACTS YOUR COMMUNITY

Cancer hits far too close to home, so the funds you raise will help do the same. Through services and resources like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline, cancer patients and their families will feel the love. Here’s how recent money raised has been put to incredible uses.

$410 million as of
august 2018

Funding potentially lifesaving cancer research grants.

1.34 million in 2017

Calls and chats from patients and caregivers seeking support.

Nearly
452 thousand in 2017

Nights of free lodging provided to patients at Hope Lodge® communities.

Cancer has touched all of us in some way. And we want to stop this disease in its tracks. We'll spend the next few weeks fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Then, on the day of the event, we'll honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others.

Together, we'll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
