Shields Against Cancer

Why We Formed a Relay For Life Fundraising Team

Welcome to our team page! Cancer has touched many of us in some way, so we decided to fight back by raising funds and walking in our local American Cancer Society Relay For Life event.

The Shields Against Cancer Relay for Life team was formed in 1996 by a group of staff working in the Shields Building at Penn State University. Staff from a variety of departments (Administrative Information Services, Bursar, Housing, Registrar’s Office, Student Aid and Undergraduate Admissions) wanted to form a Relay team to honor co-workers and family members impacted by cancer. Hence the name for the team “Shields Against Cancer”. The team membership has changed over the years; and the team has expanded to include family members of some of the Shields staff. The team is always looking for new team members!

As a team, we are taking action to help eliminate cancer as a major health problem. At our Relay event, we will take turns walking around the track to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society in their lifesaving mission.

Please join our team or make a donation. Saving lives from cancer starts one team, one participant, one dollar at a time.
