Chocoholics for A Cause

Why We Formed a Relay For Life Fundraising Team

Chocoholics for a Cause Team Bio

Chocoholics for A Cause was Initially formed by Connie Shull, Lena Southworth and Connie’s Former Sister in law, Cyndi Gariepy in April 2012 when Lena’s dad and Connie’s Mom were in the final stages of Lung Cancer. Connie lost her favorite Aunt in October 2009 to Lung Cancer and had other friends and family that had battled the disease so she had participated in the event prior to starting the team. The addition, with the disease striking even closer the team development. The loss of Connie’s Mom and Lena’s dad motivated Lena and Connie to continue the efforts of fighting.

We invited friends, Bruce and Kathy Exley to join us and the team was officially formed. Over the years, family and friends of the initial 5 members have also participated and in 2013 , former members of Team McGee Tuminators, joined Chocoholics. Current team members include: Team Captains, Connie Shull & Lena Southworth, Treasurer, Eva Palmer, and the following team members: Doug and Maria McGee, Michele and Chris Bookwalter, Bruce Exley, Ashley Perry and Angie Whitling. The Team continues to also be strongly supported by Kathleen Exley of Classy Catering and Oil City Wholesale & Floral Design, Owner Jolene Fleeger and Husband, Jeff as well as previous team members and friends. Without all of the members and those that continue to support them, Chocoholics could not do what they do in hopes to someday help to eradicate this monster.

Major fundraisers for the team include Big Basket Raffles, The Fighter’s Ball a Semi-Formal dinner and dance in October and the Chocolate Frolic Wine and Chocolate Tasting in April. Thank you to the Community and everyone else that helps us Make a Difference each year!
