ROUND TWO: RELAY MADNESS!

Hi Relay Madness Teams!

We’d like to start by saying THANK YOU so much for your amazing participation in our competition!  This week, you’ve managed to raise over $500 for the Relays of Eagan and Apple Valley combined by sending those emails!  That is great news.  The more money we have raised, the closer we are to finishing the fight against cancer.

Below is the updated Relay Madness Bracket! Now onto Round 2!

Congrats to our teams Apple Valley Medical Center, Cross Country Conquers Cancer, Kutschied Crusaders, and Anytime Fitness Apple Valley for advancing to the next round!

Week 2 Challenge3/22 at 12:00 a.m. through 3/28 at 11:59 p.m.

Survivors and Luminaria: Be the team to recruit the most Survivors to your team and sell the most Luminaria online!

Ideas and Things to Know

  • Who is a survivor?
    • A survivor is anyone who has ever heard the words, “You have cancer.”  Some people are very open about their survivorship and others are more private.  Be sensitive when making your ask.
    • Ask survivors you know to join your team using your team page url or the main Relay For Life website.  Be sure they say they are a survivor when registering so they get their special shirt. www.relayforlife.org/applevalleymn
  • How do we honor survivors at the Relay For Life?
    • We have an Honorary Survivor speaker during our Opening Ceremony who will share their story with everyone.
    • There is a Survivor Lap just after Opening Ceremony where all survivors and their caregivers walk the first lap around the track to start the event.
  • What is a luminaria?
    • A luminaria is a bag that is placed around the track on the night of Relay.  The bags are decorated to honor or in memory of someone with cancer.  When it gets dark out, we light candles or glow sticks in the luminaria bags, and the light illuminates the walking path, guiding us throughout the night.  The luminaria bags are a way for Relayers to remember why we celebrate survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and why we must continue to fight back.
  •  How much is a luminaria bag?
    • A luminaria bag is a $10 donation to the American Cancer Society.
  • Tell people about your experience during the luminaria ceremony.  Stories help make a personal connection to why we are selling these bags.

Please let us know if you have any questions or need help with your ideas!

Thank you for all you do!

Let Week 2 of Relay Madness begin!
