Welcome to the 2015 Relay For Life of West Cook

Sign up your Relay team today and participate in No Shave November

Let your hair grow for the sake of fundraising! The idea behind No Shave November is to let your hair continue to grow through the month and encourage your friends and family to do the same! All of the money saved from not getting a cut is then encouraged to be donated to your team as your November fundraiser! To learn more information check out our website at: http://www.no-shave.org/

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month

Now is the time to remind loved ones and coworkers about the harmful effects smoking has on your health and chances for lung cancer! Join us on November 20th for the Great American Smokeout to spread the word at how quickly one can benefit from quitting smoking:

  • 20 minutes: Heart rate and blood pressure drop
  • 12 hours: Carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal
  • 2 wks- 3 months: Circulation improves and lung function increase
  • 1 – 9 months: Coughing/shortness of breath decreases, lungs can begin to clean themselves and reduces the risk of infection
  • 1 year: Excess risk of coronary heart disease is half of a continual smoker
  • 5 years: Risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus and bladder are cut in half
  • 10 years: Risk of dying from lung cancer is half of that of a person who is still smoking
  • 15 years: Risk of coronary heart disease is that of a non-smoker’s
