Relay Laps Are Here! Get Ready To Have Fun!

Lap Themes for Relay 2015

(9:00AM- 11:00AM) Wear Relay Gear Lap: Every year there is a new batch of Relay for Life gear that circulates the masses. This lap is to show some Relay for Life pride. Anything Relay related will do. Whether it be a volunteer shirt from years ago, or the latest and greatest Relay attire from the current year.

(11:00AM- 1:00PM) Fun in the Sun Lap: Ever wanted to walk around sporting sandals, swim trunks, and sunglasses? This is the lap for you. Fun in the Sun is a lap dedicated to embracing the fun of Summer, kicking around beach balls, and keeping cool.

(1:00PM- 3:00PM) Backwards Lap: Have you ever put your shirt on backwards? Well now you have a reason to do it on purpose. Backwards Lap is a lap where you are supposed to be backwards. Whether that be talking backwards, walking backwards, or wearing your clothes backwards, it’s up to you to decide how turned around you want to get.

(3:00PM- 5:00PM) Costume/Superhero Lap: Its high time to start dressing up and run around in your favorite costume without looking like a crazy person. Costume/Superhero Lap is tailor made for those who like to dress up in costume, but can’t quite find enough reasons to do it regularly.

(5:00PM- 6:00PM) Gender Bender Lap: This lap is specially dedicated to the long lasting tradition of the Mr. & Mrs. Relay Pageant. During this lap men and women will have the opportunity to dress up as the opposite sex and parade around looking for donations from the other Relay participants. This contest will be held starting at 5PM. The first part of the contest is a showing of all of the participants. After the initial showing the participants will have 30 minutes to walk around the track and gather as many donations as possible. Then the participants will be called back to the stage where one more showing of the contestants will be held while their donations will be counted. In the last 10 minutes of the hour the winners will be announced. One winner will be for Mr. Relay and one winner will be for Mrs. Relay.

(6:00PM- 8:00PM) Car Lap: The Car Lap is tied into one of the many annual events the Camarillo Relay puts on. I am of course talking about the Cardboard Car Show and Race. Kids and teens will have the opportunity throughout the day to build a car out of cardboard at our Family Activities Center. At 6PM, the time of the Car Lap,  a gathering of all of these cars will commence for a showing. The kids and teens can enter their cars to be judged in one or all of the following categories: Best in show, Best truck, Best sports car, and Best Clunker. The show will run for 30 minutes and after that two races will commence. The first race is a 50 meter race for the kids, and the second race is a ¼ mile lap for the teens.  Prizes will be given out to the winners of the races, as well as the winners of the showing. Alternatively if you don’t want to participate in this contest you can also show your Relay spirit by wearing car shirts or running around the track making vrooming noises. Keep your energy high and start your engines.

(8:00PM-10:00PM) Survivor / Wear Purple Lap: This is one of the most important laps there is. Survivors and those fighting cancer deserve to be applauded for their fight. Show your support by dedicating a few laps to a survivor or someone fighting, all  a while  sporting some fashionable purple attire.

(10:00PM- 12:00AM) Zombie / Pajama Lap: We all know the feeling of staying up late and feeling completely droned out like a zombie. Well here is an excuse to make it look good. Take a few laps in your PJs while mutually sharing the look of, “I can’t believe i’m still up.”

(12:00AM- 2:00AM) Midnight Snack Lap: It’s midnight. You hungry yet? Now is the time to grab a coffee or a quick snack and reinvigorate yourself. Only a few more hours left and it’s all downhill from here. Good luck staying awake!

(2:00AM- 4:00AM) Stay Warm / Polar Bear Lap: It gets cold late at night, and there are two kinds of people in this scenario, those who bundle up when it starts getting cold, and those who embrace it. You can toss a blanket around you, or run around in shorts. This lap is for you to decide.

(4:00AM- 6:00AM) Just Woke Up/Rise and Shine Lap: It’s almost time for closing ceremony and some people tried to sleep. Spend this lap walking around proudly showing off your bed head. Maybe even brush your teeth. Actually you should definitely brush your teeth. Don’t forget about breakfast and yawning every other minute!

(6:00AM- 8:00AM) Go Green / Trash Pick Up Lap: We are right before closing ceremony and it’s pretty evident that there was a super fun 24 hour event right where you are standing. Spend this lap picking up trash as you walk around and tidying up where you can. It’s important to leave places better than you found it.
