My Reason to Relay

I am participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life because I want to make a meaningful difference in the fight against cancer.  As you may know, my grandmother was  diagnosed with late stage lung cancer in September 2011.  She had never smoked a day in her life, yet she fought everyday to breathe and to beat her lung cancer.  Sadly, her lung cancer spread to her bones and brain.  She was one of the strongest people I have ever known!  She was determined not to become a statistic, but to defy all odds and win her fight against cancer.  Sadly, my beautiful grandmother lost her fight on September 1, 2012.

My grandmother participated in Relay for Life with me two years ago, walking her own Survivor Lap around the track at Moody.  My grandmother made a vow to see at least one more birthday, and she did.  Her last birthday was just 3 days before she lost her fight.  I was with her as she breathed her last breath.  I held her hand and felt her spirit leave her body behind on this earth.  She is in a better place- a place where her cancer can no longer hold her back. I am grateful for the doctors, researchers, and volunteers who helped her through her fight.  I pledge to work each year to help others win their fight with Cancer.

Almost everyone has been touched by cancer, either through their own personal battle or through someone they love.

Every day, the American Cancer Society is helping us stay well by preventing cancer or finding it at its earliest, most treatable stages. They assist families in finding the best resources to help their friend or loved one deal with a diagnosis and their journey to get well. They even help to provide wigs for patients going through chemotherapy.  The American Cancer Society is also rallying communities (like ours!) through events like Relay For Life, to fight back and find cures for this disease.

Please join my team or make a donation to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Together, we can help make sure that cancer never steals another year of anyone?s life!

Help me honor my grandmother's fight and life by donating to help fight Cancer and find a cure.  Every little bit helps! Thank you.

Cheer me on!

Thank you to my supporters!
