My mission of making Swarovski Cancer Awareness
Bracelets to raise money for ACS is dedicated to my MOM, who lost her battle on
May 10, 2010 and my DAD, who lost his battle on July 27,2011..
"Mom, you were hospitalized in 2009 and
it was then that I began making bracelets. I made you one. Everyone who came in
to care for you commented on how sparkly & lovely it was. You were so proud
that I was making something so precious, beautiful & meaningful. Back then
it was just a pretty bracelet for you to wear.
Throughout 2010, you watched me make
bracelet after bracelet for all those wonderful Bedford Court Sunrise residents
& staff who also thought they were precious, beautiful and meaningful...
Some were cancer survivors, some had lost family/friends to cancer while others
had seen their friends wearing one & had to have one too. I loved holding
your hand after each trip to the hospital--that hand sparkled with the crystal
beauty... again though, it was just a pretty bracelet. I know you didnt remember
that I was a cancer survivor (9yrs)--that was ok. Each crystal color
represented a different cancer.
On 4/15/10 you were finally diagnosed
with late stage ovarian cancer -- which wasn't operable nor treatable. It was
THEN that your pretty bracelet became more than just a bracelet. YOU, like the
bracelet, were the sparkle in dad's eyes (61 yrs worth) and the reason for my
year long fundraising mission of making these bracelets. The color TEAL would be OUR color momma--that representing GYN
cancer.
When you died on May 10, 2010, your
bracelet became more precious than I could ever have imagined. Your spirit will
live on in the hearts of everyone you touched & loved.
You were the sparkle in dad's eye..YOU
were our precious gem that will be cherished forever!
Joy and I miss you BOTH and will always
love you!"
To all who don't know what Relay for Life
is.... it's a community coming together to HONOR, REMEMBER and FIGHT for those
who have battled cancer. We raise money for American Cancer Society and then on
June 8, 2013, we invite you to come out to be apart of this important day of
remembering at Sherwood High School.
