My Reasons to Relay

I am participating in the American Cancer Society?s Relay For Life because I want to make a meaningful difference in the fight against cancer.

This year is the second year Doug Maloney and I will take on leading the Norcross High School Relay for Life team! We want to keep Norcross High as one of the top fundraising teams in Georgia, the US and the world!  Norcross is a very special place and the kids and teachers work so hard in this fight against cancer.  I'm honored to be a captain this year!

Almost everyone has been touched by cancer, either through their own personal battle or through someone they love. I never met my grandmother on my father's side because of breast cancer. (Although I'm amazingly thankful for my step-grandmother who is so WONDERFUL!)After graduating college my mother was diagnosed with bladder cancer. I thank God everyday that it was beaten quickly, and I still have my mom, but many people are not as blessed. I also had the privledge of meeting Mae O'Reilly this past year.  She is a survivor and an amazing friend!  Each year that passes, I have another reason to Relay. And finally, this year, one of our students is fighting cancer. So I am doing this for Nick Kim as well!   This disease takes many quickly and unexpectedly, please help me help those in need!

Another reason I am getting involved with relay this year is to help Norcross High School become the number one relay team in the county! NHS is an extremely special place to me ! Norcross High School is my alma mater as well as my place of employment. It is one of the most diverse schools and one of the schools with the highest percentage rate of free-reduced lunch students in the county. This means that despite barriers and perhaps a lack of financial comfort in their own lives, our students continue to raise tens of thousands of dollars to help cancer victims each and every year! The fact that the Norcross community comes together as one each year to do good for others is an experience everyone should witness! Help me make Norcross High number one, and let's kick cancer's butt! ;-)

Every day, the American Cancer Society is helping us stay well by preventing cancer or finding it at its earliest, most treatable stages. They assist families in finding the best resources to help their friend or loved one deal with a diagnosis and their journey to get well. The American Cancer Society is also rallying communities (like ours!) through events like Relay For Life, to fight back and find cures for this disease.

Please make a donation to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Together, we can help make sure that cancer never steals another year of anyone?s life!

Cheer me on!

Thank you to my supporters!
