I'm pretty sure that most everyone has experienced the loss of a loved one or someone you know due to cancer. I've had multiple people in my life pass from cancer. On the other hand, I've been fortunate enough to also see people recover and win their battles with cancer. Many of these wins have been aided by the new technology that the American Cancer Society is able to fund through events like Relay for Life. I got involved with Relay in the 8th grade, where I joined the Pinckneyville Middle School Relay team. I attended the event for the first time in May of 2009 with our team, and I was amazed. The amount of people that all came together for one event in one late night made me overjoyed to be a part of something so big. That night, I made my decision to join the Norcross High School team and help out in any way I can. I've been an active member of the prestigious Norcross High School team for 4 years now. We have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars towards cancer research, and I have been able to participate in the event that brought thousands of people closer together. This year, I am currently serving as the Relay for Life student co-chair on our Norcross team. I have high hopes and big plans for our team this year, because we have set some very large goals that we want to reach and hopefully surpass.
