Why I Participate in a Relay Event

I have participated or raised funds through Relay for Life for 11 years now. I originally joined the fight against cancer for selfish reasons, to give myself a way to make a contribution to the world making it a better place, and to ensure that I did something on this earth that had a meaning. That I did something to make something better. Now it has different meaning. Over the years watching the Relay, the meaning of the event itself, offers hope and inspiration, and offers confirmation that what you are doing actually has an impact in the fight. Watching all of the Survivors, in each stage of their journeys offers hope. Hope that should I ever have to hear the phrase "You have cancer" that it isn't a death sentence, but a struggle and know that there is opportunity to overcome it.

Who I?m Participating For
For everyone I know, for my children, and my loved ones. For my friends and co-workers. I have hope that someday because of all of our combined efforts that the words "You have Cancer" won't strike fear in our hearts, or despair in our minds.

Together, we have the power to help create a world where cancer can no longer claim another year of anyone?s life.
