Hope Starts Here... With Me!
Why am I walking? I have been profoundly affected by breast cancer in my life. I lost my beloved Mother in 1999 after a two year struggle with breast cancer. In the same year of her death, another family member, Joann Peters was diagnosed and is a survivor today. Go Joann!! My Aunt Judy (my Mother's twin siser) was diagnosed in 2003 after participating in a Breast Cancer Research program and had a double mastectomy. She was a breast cancer survivor for 6 years until cancer came back to consume her lungs and spine. She passed away in May 2009. Today, there is more hope than ever for people touched by breast cancer. However, there is still much work to be done to promote early detection and to help those impacted by the disease. To help make a difference, and to honor my loved ones, I'm participating in the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.
