Hope Starts With Me!
Why am I walking? I am a recent retiree having served 37 years in Federal Government with Peace Corps; a service organization. You might be asking, "What am I doing now with my time"? I am active in my church, I love flower gardening, I maintain a Koi pond and I have recently chosen to give of myself to the American Cancer Society in Silver Spring, MD. Currently, I am volunteering two days each week. During the past year, I have had two dear friends who were struck with breast cancer. I had an aunt and a niece (age 32) to succumb to breast cancer. I, as probably many of you, have had friends who have been victims of cancer. Additionally, my husband Art is a 13 year cancer survivor. Hence, the reason I have selected the American Cancer Society as my primary organization to give of my time and talents as a volunteer in the fight against cancer. I am hoping that the work that I do with ACS will make a difference (to the mission of eliminating suffering from cancer). I am hopeful and I pray that someday a cure for cancer will be found. I am looking forward to participating in the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk to fight back. I have accepted a challenge to identify at least 100 others who will join me in the 5K Walk. The walk can be a way for all of us to celebrate and remember our loved ones. Please visit cancer.org/stridesonline today and sign up.
