Volunteer for Making Strides
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Long Island
October 15, 2017 Jones Beach State Park Field 5
The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks are the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting nearly 300 communities to create a world free from the pain and suffering of breast cancer. But they depend on the passion of volunteers like you. The money you help raise enables the Society to fund innovative breast cancer research, provide comprehensive information and services, and ensure access to mammograms for women who need them.
HOW YOU CAN PUT YOUR DETERMINATION TO WORK:
Volunteers are needed at every phase of the event from set-up to clean up.
Check-in: Help register participants at the event. May require pre-event training.
Refreshments: Set up and distribute snacks to all walkers.
Route Marshals: Direct walkers to stay on the route. Duties may include traffic control.
Water Stations: Distribute water to walkers along the route.
Merchandise: Promote T-shirts and other promotional items at the event.
Volunteer Check-in: Sign in and direct volunteers to their stations.
Greeters/Cheerers: Greet walkers, and lead them to check-in. Cheer on walkers, and give them directions.
Survivors Tent: Assist in greeting cancer survivors.
Caregiver Tent: Assist in greeting caregivers
Setup/Cleanup: May involve heavy lifting, moving, and loading.
Office/Admin: Help with pre-event mailings, kits, and more.
IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT TO THE WALK, YOU CAN STILL HELP.
Make sure others come to the walk by distributing walk papers and promotional materials in your neighborhood. Or help out by recruiting new volunteers, coordinating walk materials, and contacting past participants by phone.
Would you like to lead the team or join the team?
This isn’t what I wanted.
Welcome to our Team Page. We’ve formed a team because this cause is important to us. We want to help. And walking and raising money in our local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is the best way we can do that. We all have different reasons for participating but we share a determination to help save lives from breast cancer.
There are so many ways that the money our team raises helps. It’s helping fund innovative research. It’s providing free information for people dealing with the disease. It’s providing rides to treatment and places to stay for people who have to seek treatment far from home. In short, our money is helping save lives. Consider donating to our team and helping advance the cause.
How We Support the American Cancer Society
Of course we walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. And we solicit donations from family, friends, and other supporters. But we also schedule fundraisers in lead-up to the big event. Bake-sales, car washes, and countless other types of events. And we promote those on social media, through Facebook and Twitter, by word of mouth, and through flyers at work and around the neighborhood. The success of fundraising events depends on two things - hard work and getting the word out. And we're out to do both. Keep an eye out for our fundraising events.
