Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks unite communities behind the American Cancer Society's efforts to save lives from breast cancer. Making Strides of Albany reflects its own community, here's what you can expect at our event:

Check-In Opens

10:00 AM

If you have registered online:

Check in is simple if you've already signed up online. You should have received an email with you check-in ID before the walk. Print it out and bring it to the check-in tent along with any donations on the day of the walk.

If you have not registered online:

Please come to the check-in area to complete a paper registration form. Turn in your completed form along with any donations.



Opening Ceremony

11:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Come together with survivors, caregivers, men and women from all walks of life who are passionate about saving lives from breast cancer. Celebrate your shared efforts. Inspire each other to carry on. And take comfort in the knowledge that because of your dedication, no one walks alone.



Walk Begins

12:00 PM

Be sure that your team is ready to go at least 15 minutes before your designated start time.


Where To Meet Your Team

Washington Park Parade Grounds

Walk route: Please see the linked map for the walk route and water stations.



Parking is available at The Stratton VA Hospital (B, C and D lots, please enter through the New Scotland Ave entrance), the Empire State Plaza parking lots, Thurlow Terrace Parking Lot at the University of Albany Corner of Thurlow Terrace and Western Ave and on the street. Please adhere to all posted parking signage. Limited handicapped parking is available in the park by entering from the Sprague/State Street entrance. For this, all vehicles need to be in by 9:00am and cannot leave until after 2:00pm for the safety of our walkers. 


CDTA will be providing shuttle service as follows


Parking Lots: UAlbany Thurlow lot; Stratton VA lots

Drop off/Pick up at the park location - Madison/New Scotland


First loop for each bus leaves at 9:30 am from each parking lot:

- U AlbanyThurlow to/from Madison/New Scotland

- VA to/from Madison/New Scotland


CDTA Shuttle Pause Time: Noon - 1:00pm


CDTA Afternoon Shuttle Service Time: 1:00pm - 2:30pm


For Survivors And Caregivers

Survivor check-in:

Survivors, check in when you arrive at the walk. Please fill out a paper registration form or sign up online.

Survivor area:

The survivor area is a special area for survivors and the caregivers attending with them. We include both survivors and caregivers to make sure everyone is as comfortable as possible. You'll find important information about American Cancer Society programs and services geared specifically for you.

Survivor group photo:

All survivors are invited to join us for a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Albany tradition - the survivor photo! The photo will take place as part of our opening ceremony at around 11:50 a.m. so be sure you are near the stage at this time!

After The Walk

We all walk together, but our event is not a race. Stop whenever you want or need to. You absolutely do not need to complete the entire walk if you are unable. Upon finishing the walk, please join us for entertainment and water. The walk concludes when the final walker crosses the finish line.

Welcome to our Team Page. We’ve formed a team because this cause is important to us. We want to help. And walking and raising money in our local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is the best way we can do that. We all have different reasons for participating but we share a determination to help save lives from breast cancer.

There are so many ways that the money our team raises helps. It’s helping fund innovative research. It’s providing free information for people dealing with the disease. It’s providing rides to treatment and places to stay for people who have to seek treatment far from home. In short, our money is helping save lives. Consider donating to our team and helping advance the cause.

How We Support the American Cancer Society

Of course we walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. And we solicit donations from family, friends, and other supporters. But we also schedule fundraisers in lead-up to the big event. Bake-sales, car washes, and countless other types of events. And we promote those on social media, through Facebook and Twitter, by word of mouth, and through flyers at work and around the neighborhood. The success of fundraising events depends on two things - hard work and getting the word out. And we're out to do both. Keep an eye out for our fundraising events.
