Making Strides of Sacramento

The Pink Ribbons

Welcome to our team page! HERE IS OUR STORY:

Hi! THE PINK RIBBONS team was created in the Fall of 2012 after my daughter Kimberly Guyton (then Brannan) was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer at only 28 years old. Though it had been mere weeks since her surgery she felt Very Strongly about remaining positive and being pro-active. They say attitude is everything ...well Kim is a testimony to that! We had both heard about Making Strides but had never participated in any walks before. She was insistant on doing it! With a rollercoaster of emotions on the loose, I volunteered to be captain, Kim got her sisters and cousins onboard, we decided on a team name, and signed-up online! From there it grew to become a really fun annual event we look forward to with family and close friends while supporting a Very Serious cause dear to our hearts. It's also a great way to channel our fears into something positive!

I lost my sister, Judy Hart Smith (Kim's aunt and Saresa's mom), to breast cancer in 1999 at the age of 49. Fear certainly rocked our world with Kim's diagnosis. Judy had a different form of the disease than Kim. It was a very rare, very aggressive cancer. There have been so many break-throughs since then but the work is not done and a cure is still to be found.

Though we are walking in Sacramento, please note this is a National Event by the American Cancer Society happening in over 300 communities across the country, throughout the year. Your donation goes to The American Cancer Society Not just my community. Saving lives from breast cancer starts one team one walker and one dollar at a time. Consider making a donation today to help support our team, women (and men) struggling with this disease 24/7, as well as those yet to be diagnosed. We all know someone ...please help.

Thank You! GO PINK!

Welcome to our Team Page. We’ve formed a team because this cause is important to us. We want to help. And walking and raising money in our local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event is the best way we can do that. We all have different reasons for participating but we share a determination to help save lives from breast cancer.

There are so many ways that the money our team raises helps. It’s helping fund innovative research. It’s providing free information for people dealing with the disease. It’s providing rides to treatment and places to stay for people who have to seek treatment far from home. In short, our money is helping save lives. Consider donating to our team and helping advance the cause.

How We Support the American Cancer Society

Of course we walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. And we solicit donations from family, friends, and other supporters. But we also schedule fundraisers in lead-up to the big event. Bake-sales, car washes, and countless other types of events. And we promote those on social media, through Facebook and Twitter, by word of mouth, and through flyers at work and around the neighborhood. The success of fundraising events depends on two things - hard work and getting the word out. And we're out to do both. Keep an eye out for our fundraising events.
