Why I am Making Strides
Because I know I will make a difference in the fight to end breast cancer. I know that by raising funds and walking in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event, I will help save lives from breast cancer.
I believe that one day breast cancer will never steal another year from anyone's life. Making Strides is not only my opportunity to join my community to fight back against breast cancer, but it is also a way to inspire hope by raising funds and awareness to help those facing the disease. That's why I'm walking.
Who I am Making Strides For
My reason for walking in the Making Strides event is personal – in 2013 I was diagnosed with stage 1 Breast cancer, and I give credit to my annual mammogram for possibly saving my life. While my stuggle was difficult then and even now; i want to contribute in some way to make a difference in other people who may also be going through the same as me. As you look at my photos was the beginning of my hair loss and the other one is 3 months of my hair growing back. On my "wig day" my beautiful sisters, Sabrina, Gail and Melody and my sister in Christ, Vicki went with me to select my wig during this journey. While I may be the sister with Cancer,; my Sisters were/are on this journey with me. Daily we pray together during a certain hour of the day and share scripture. Because without our faith we would be nothing. I don't want to leave out our beautiful and supportive mother, Margie who also joined our pledge to each other. I want you all to know I am at the end of this journey and now want to fight for someone else. Please join me in supporting this event. Together we can do all things. Phil 4:13
Wow - today July 24, 2014 is the anniversary of my surgery. While it has been a long year full of struggles, i can say now that a lot of good has come from me developing cancer. I am a much stronger Christian and my testimony has touched a lot of people. My fundraising efforts continue with me planning another fundraiser and mini-walk at a local park. My team are behind me and it will be alot of fun. I am able to walk about 1 1/2 miles now. Three more month till our big walk in October.
Why I Support the American Cancer Society
Every day, the American Cancer Society helps people take steps to reduce their risk of breast cancer or find it early when it is easiest to treat. Today 1 of every 2 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer reaches out to them for help and support. They provide free information and services when and where women need it throughout their journey to get well. They are investing in groundbreaking research to find, prevent, treat, and cure breast cancer, and are working to ensure access to mammograms for women who need them.
I have signed up to walk and fundraise with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. I hope you will consider joining my team and/or making a donation in support of my efforts.
Together, we can make strides to end breast cancer!
Thank you to my supporters!
