Why Making Strides and not some other breast cancer walk? Because the American Cancer Society is the leader in the fight against breast cancer. 1 of every 2 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer reaches out to us for help and support, such as rides to treatment, free lodging when treatments are far from home, and classes to help with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. American Cancer Society-funded research has led to mammography, discovery of the breast cancer genes, and drugs such as tamoxifen and Herceptin. 46 of the researchers we funded early in their careers - when few others would - have gone on to win the Nobel Prize.
100 years of saving lives Today, the American Cancer Society is helping save more than 400 lives a day that would have otherwise been lost to cancer. We won't stop until we finish the fight.
Why am I walking?
