2016 Honoree

Emily Gregory was diagnosed with early-stage invasive ductal carcinoma and DCIS on April Fool’s Day 2015. At age 41, with no breast cancer family history and as a married mother of two school-age children, this was clearly no laughing matter. The cancer came out of nowhere – the year before her baseline mammogram was completely normal! Because of her young age and the aggressive nature of her cancer, Emily’s battle included chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, and several reconstructive surgeries. Today she is cancer free and continues oral chemotherapy and monthly injections to prevent metastasis to her bones, brain, liver, or lungs (where breast cancer sometimes spreads.) Emily is passionate about early detection and research for metastatic breast cancer. She works for 12Stone Church as an Online Resource Coordinator and serves on the Board of Directors for Nothing But the Truth Ministries. She loves to spend time with her husband and kids, volunteer at her church, garden, and write. Her blog, which she began shortly after her cancer diagnosis and details her journey with lessons of faith and hope, can be found at www.emilygregory.net
