Coach's Challenge and Benefactors
Penn State Basketball Head Coach, Patrick Chambers, and his wife, Courtney, are dedicated to supporting their community and the American Cancer Society through Coaches vs. Cancer® of Penn State.
“We strive within our basketball program to reach a standard of excellence from our players, coaches and staff,” Coach Chambers has said. “We believe the same standard, with energy and enthusiasm, can be applied to Coaches vs. Cancer (CVC) to make it one of the most successful programs in the country helping the American Cancer Society provide support.
We’ve had challenges, as a basketball team and in our daily lives, but we always strive to meet them and overcome them. As I tell the players, if you stay focused with your attitude, you can accomplish anything. It takes a team effort to make a difference in the fight against cancer here in the Centre County and beyond, and that’s our goal.”
Over the years, patrons of CVC of Penn State wanted to get involved and help grow the program, but they didn’t golf. They made unsolicited donations as memorials gifts, dedications, etc. In 2005, the Benefactors Program was established to recognize these donors, and in 2009 the first “Coach’s Challenge” was made by Ed DeChellis and his wife, Kim.
Patrick and Courtney Chambers have generously continued the tradition. The 2016 Challenge raised over $27,000! Thank You to everyone who contributed this year!
