NEWS RELEASE FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT: American Cancer Society Hosts Fourth Annual Discovery Ball, April 24 CHICAGO – The American Cancer Society welcomes Greg Case, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aon Corp., and his wife Mamie as the chairs of the fourth annual Discovery Ball at the Civic Opera House on April 24, 2010. The black-tie event is expected to exceed the $2 million raised last year to fight cancer. “From its inception, the Discovery Ball has been an important event for the American Cancer Society to make a difference in the community,” said Case. “Four years later, Mamie and I look forward to continuing the success of the event by raising awareness for the Society’s important mission of saving lives.” The money raised will support the organization’s mission to help people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back to insure a world with less cancer and more birthdays. More than 1,000 people are expected to attend and will consist of corporate sponsors, business leaders, underwriters and guests from a diverse cross-section of Fortune 500 corporate, medical, banking, health, legal and accounting companies. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. and include a pre-event reception, a silent and live auction, dinner and entertainment. For more information, please contact the Discovery Ball office at (312) 279-7213 or www.discoveryball.org. About the American Cancer Society The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force with more than 100,000 volunteers in Illinois and millions elsewhere, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer, and countless more who have avoided it, will be celebrating birthdays this year.
