Cause

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and patient services.

Why give to the American Cancer Society?

    • There are more than a million reasons to give to the American Cancer Society because that is how many people will face a cancer diagnosis this year alone.
    • The American Cancer Society impacts research worldwide. Since 1946, The Society has invested almost $3 billion in cancer research. The American Cancer Society is the largest source of private, nonprofit cancer research funds in the United States, second only to the federal government.
    • The society has funded 42 Nobel Prize winners early in their careers.
    • Cancer death rates have significantly declined for the second year in a row. In 2003 the decline was large enough to outpace the aging and growth of the U.S. population. The larger drop in cancer deaths in 2004 is evidence that the decline may continue.
    • Events like Cattle Baron’s Ball help the American Cancer Society offer support and service programs to try to lessen the impact of a cancer diagnosis.  These programs cover a wide range of needs from connecting patients with other survivors to providing a place to stay when treatment facilities are far from home.
    • Your support of the 2009 Cattle Baron’s Ball will help us continue these lifesaving research projects and support programs that benefit cancer patients and their families in Corpus Christi and across the country. Please join us in this fight. Together, we can make a difference.
