The 2009 Starlight Gala benefiting the American Cancer Society was held at the Crystal Ballroom at the Rice, Friday, May 15, 2009. It was attended by 275 of Houston's philanthropists and volunteers. The emcee was Jennifer Reyna, Channel 2 traffic reporter. The event included casino gaming, silent auction, big board, Wii gaming, raffle and entertainment provided by Molly and the Ringwalds. The Starlight Gala is organized by Houston's elite young professionals and it benefits the American Cancer Society.

Description:American Cancer Society Sets Date for 14th Annual Starlight Gala

HOUSTON, TX - October 9, 2008 - The American Cancer Society's Junior Board is proud to announce that the 14th annual Starlight Gala, "Through the Looking Glass," will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009, beginning at 7:30 p.m. till midnight at the Crystal Ballroom. All proceeds from the gala will benefit the fight against cancer. In its 14th year, the Starlight Gala is unique in that it is a black-tie event produced entirely by young professionals ages 25 to 45 who are passionate about giving back to the Houston community. Over the past 13 years, the Starlight Gala committee has raised more than $1.1 million for research, education, advocacy and service. Since its inception, the Starlight Gala has set the bar for many other American Cancer Society events. The gala's highlights include festive entertainment and fine dining. Guests have the opportunity to further support the Society through a silent auction, mystery gift boxes and a raffle. One of the activities that makes the Starlight Gala unique is the dedication of the evening to a "Shining Star" cancer survivor or dedicated volunteer. Participants do more than attend the gala, they "Celebrate the Victory, Encourage the Fight, Honor the Memory" of cancer patients everywhere.
