Message from the Chair

On behalf of the whole Silver Dollar Ball 2009 committee, what can I say but...WOW! There are simply no words to thank everyone enough who sponsored/underwrote/attended this year's Silver Dollar Ball!! We were faced with some unusual challenges (ok, so there are probably stronger words that could have been used for "challenges" when you take into account the WORST weather in the area in over 50 years and we ARE an outdoor venue!!) but ALL of you rose to the occasion!!    The weather was "unpredictable" at best and anyone who knows me knows I'm the eternal optimist! A distant inside location was offered (thank you, Eddie Deen for the generous offer) -- but, stay at the ranch WE DID!! And, after the first storm blew through, we knew the earlier decision to go with a bigger tent was about to look REALLY smart!! We (and I do mean WE ---- everyone!!) moved tables, games, auction...everything...buffet, sounds, lighting, VIP area...EVERYTHING inside the tent.   OK, so it was a little crowded to some ---- but cozy to most! The over 400 who braved the weather all seemed to have a wonderful time AND we were able to raise over $80,000 for the American Cancer Society of North Texas and couldn't be more proud!   The Live Auction was exceptional with the highlight of the evening being the custom chopper donated by Honorary Chairman Marco Rivera! When he started that Harley in the tent, you would not BELIEVE the sound!! Then, Tracy Byrd took the stage, uh dance floor...and we all partied right along with him and the band!      Simply said the rain, wind, lightening...did nothing to dampen the spirit of the evening!  Thank you to all of our sponsors and underwriters who made the evening possible.  Thank you to the INCREDIBLE vendors, committee members and volunteers who moved and then had to move again each element of the evening to the tent to make sure we could have an event at all.  And, most of all, thank you to all of you who attended what turned out to be an INCREDIBLE evening for SDB and the American Cancer Society!  So, WOW I am grateful to you all and thank you for allowing me to serve the past two years as chairman of this exciting event! I welcome Amy Wagner, Chairman 2010 as she steps into this role and wish her much success! I hope to see you all at Silver Dollar Ball 2010!!!!  Sincerely,   Sherri Vrla
