Message from the Chairs

Dear Supporters,

We are honored to be chairing this year’s event as we look back at how far we’ve come and look forward to a cancer-free world.   We hope you will join us on May 15, 2009 as we take a journey Through the Looking Glass and into an Adventure in Wonderland!

It is our goal this year to raise $125,000 for the American Cancer Society (ACS).  We understand that this is as lofty goal given the state of the economy.  However, it is exactly times such as these that many people will need to turn to the ACS for help.  Many cancer patients rely on the ACS to help them with transportation to and from treatments through the Road to Recovery program.  Did you know that you can call 1-800-ACS-2345 seven days a week/24 hours a day and an ACS representative will help you with any questions you may have regarding cancer?  These are just two of the areas that are in need of funding.

In our 14th year, the Starlight Gala has become a benchmark for young professionals who want to get involved with philanthropy and who are extremely passionate about giving back to the Houston community.  Both of us are passionate about the cause because we both have close friends and family that have battled cancer.  Some have won their battle and gone on to live healthy, productive lives while others have courageously lost their battle. It is in their spirit that the two of us volunteer for this very worthy cause. 

This year we are honoring a young lady, Andrea Martin, who is very dear to our hearts.  She has battled cancer for several years and never misses a smile or laugh but most importantly never gives up hope!  We are honored to have her represent our mission.With all the generous supporters and volunteers, the American Cancer Society is one step closer to winning the battle. 

The Starlight Gala has raised more than $1.4 million dollars for cancer research, education, advocacy and service.  We have had a tremendous year given the extraordinary dedication of our chairs and committee members that have worked countless hours! 

Every day we are inspired by donors who give back to their communities and share in the joy of giving.  Cancer patients and survivors are forever indebted to you and to all of those who bring them one step closer to a better life.  We thank you for your involvement and commitment to the battle against cancer.  Celebrate the victory, encourage the fight and honor the memory!  We can’t wait to see you there!
