1950-2009

My mother, a fighter to the very end. She battled nonhogkins lymphoma beginning in 2001, going into remission three times. When the leukemia was diagnosed over a year ago, she put on her battle gear and prepared for the fight. She fought even after the death of my brother in September of last year. On January 1st of this year, I traveled to visit her in what would be her last week of life. Just as God rested on the 7th day of creation, she went to rest on the seventh day of the new year! She is cancer free, pain free, and finally at peace in the presence of our Lord.

Thank you...

As an already disabled person, my mother had limited funds to travel to chemo every month and then to stay in a hotel. The ACS helped with funds for travel costs along with the hospitality team at Mercy Medical Center in Redding, CA giving very low rates for the rooms she and my step dad would stay in. It was a huge help and my mom always expressed her appreciation for the blessing.

Your mother is a lovely looking lady, and I am so glad you sent her picture, I have often wondered what she looked like. I will send a poem in her honor:
I'M FREE
Don't grieve for me flor now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me
I took his hand when I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy,
A friendship share, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things too I will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life's been full, I've savored much.
Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me
God wanted me now, He set me free.

Shannon's mom touched my heart in the way that she bravely battled her cancer in the face of pain and loss. I didn't get to spend much time with her, but I adore her wonderful daughter who is my dear friend. I'm thankful that Judith has fought the good fight, has finshed the race, and has kept the faith. May we all do as well as she.
