Donnie "Do What!" Cole died at the age of 58 on Thursday, January 2, 2014 after an extended battle with cancer. He fought bravely, surpassing all expectations.
Donnie was an avid hiker. His greatest achievement was completing a solo hike on the Appalachian Trail, covering 1,356 miles.
In the summer of 2012, the cancer returned for the third time and he was told that he had six months to live. He opted not to treat, but instead to try to live life to the fullest. He surprised everyone, living over a year beyond his initial prognosis. Most of his final year and a half seemed healthy, but, in the end, the cancer was gruesome. No one should have to suffer in the way that he did. He was brave and stubborn until the end.
Donnie was a character. His life was anything but traditional. He spent a lot of time outdoors, exploring and wandering. Creating a quiet history of a man that few, if any, knew fully, but who everyone will remember as one who walked to the beat of his own drum.

Do What! A character... rarely understood, but never forgotten. May he rest in peace.
